Alicia Abraham gave birth to four children, one of them being a beautiful baby boy named Lattie.
This child should have been a blessing on her life, a symbol that miracles can happen and that she was given an amazing gift of a little soul that loved and treasured her as his mother... but Alicia did not feel loved. She didn't feel joy, regret, pain or happiness when she was holding her new baby in the delivery room... yes Alicia states she felt absolutely nothing at the birth of her son.
She could have given the child up to a family seeking to adopt a child, she chose not to. She could have kept the baby for a while and then given it to a foster care program, but she didn't. Alicia could have ordered Lattie's father or his family to take Lattie... but she didn't. Heck, she could have even had an abortion when she first found out she was pregnant and felt nothing for the child, but she didn't do that, either.
What did Alicia Abraham do for Lattie, then? The question becomes instead, what did Alicia do to Lattie...?
Four very short years after Lattie was born, he was brutally murdered.
Alicia Abraham met a man, Johnny Campbell. She probably did not love him, since she has stated she doesn't feel love, but she did make him her boyfriend and they started living with each other and together they tortured Lattie until his death on August 14th, 1987.
Johnny started starving Lattie, and when the little boy complained, Johnny started beating him. He would stab him with needles, force his tiny legs into vats of boiling water, burn him with cigarettes, run a hot iron over his skin and his most private areas. At night they would tie clothing line around his little bitty ankles and hang him, upside down, in the closet.
... In an interview with Steve Wilkos, Alicia stated she had no knowledge on what her boyfriend was doing. This vile woman showed absolutely no emotional at all toward the discussion on the death of her child. He confronted her on the facts. She signed a statement to the police saying she knew what was going on, and yet now she was saying she had no idea her child was being abused. Apparently, this woman could not see her four year old getting thinner and thinner, could not see the fact that his ankles were rubbed raw, as was his stomach and chest. She couldn't see the black eyes or the split lips, couldn't see her child hanging by his ankles every night rather than being in his bed. She was unable to comprehend the fact that Lattie couldn't eat was a problem!
She stated “he ate” and rolled her eyes, shrugging it off, at first. Then, later, she admitted Latti wasn't eating because he said it was hard to swallow.
...Lattie had a broken collar bone. He was also strangled from time to time enough to leave bruising all around his neck. Anyone here wonder why he couldn't swallow?
When asked, Alicia said she didn't bathe Lattie and thus never saw the wounds. She never helped him in the bathroom at all, she said. Never helped him change clothes or tie his shoes. She stated that he was old enough to do all of this for himself, that all her children were. She also said there was food in the house and that her children were old enough to cook for themselves.
However, after being pressed and questioned, Alicia finally admitted she knew what was going on. Not only did she know what was going on, she helped.
Alicia giggled when hearing about the abuse she put on poor Lattie. She smirked as she corrected information and stated that, yes, they would gag him from time to time. She admitted she felt nothing about Lattie's death. That though she did dream about him, she still felt no guilt over the events that occurred. It was felt that the needed to do this, that it was necessary.
For an unknown reason, they put potato peels on Lattie's eyes when they put him in the closet for the night. This is a common cure to help your eyes not look so tired, it is done at many spas, so why they did that is a mystery to me since they also tied his hands and gagged him, thus assuring my mind that they had no intention on doing anything kind for him.
On the morning of August 14th, Alicia decided there was no hurry to get poor Lattie down from the closet. Instead, she watched television.
... Lattie didn't cry or scream to be let down. He didn't plead for his mother to release him, he didn't howl in pain, he didn't bellow, he didn't even shed a tear.
Because he was already gone. Sometime during the night that little Angel when back into the sky as he succumbed to his injuries. Blunt force trauma to his head lead to a slow death, but due to the severity of his injuries, Lattie was doomed anyway.
Later that day, Alicia called the police to ask for paramedics, saying her son was suffocating. When Paramedics arrived, they found the body of young Lattie laying on a pile of clothes. There was a collective sigh among them when they saw the child, because they knew he was already lost to this world.
After a moment, Johnny yelled at them to do something and one of the paramedics knelt down to check the poor child. He pulled up Latti's shirt and that is when they all saw how raw Latti's chest was. Lattie died with severe lacerations, the flesh on his chest and ankles raw and bloody, a broken pelvic and collar bone, numerous bruises and lacerations.
So the question to be asked is “why”? Why would they do this to a four year old little boy?
Alicia gave that answer in her interview, too. Because the boyfriend, Johnny, thought Lattie was gay.
Johnny was so homophobic, he beat, starved and tortured this four year old boy because he had a “feminine” voice. Lattie also liked to spin around and dance in front of the television to happy songs.
... And the story does not end there. Lattie had a brother, too. Cornelius Abraham was six years old when his brother died, and he too suffered abuse.
But there is a happy ending. Cornelius was brave enough to speak out against what happened and to tell about the abuse he suffered and confess to seeing his brother also brutally beaten. Alicia Abraham was sentenced to life in prison.
