The TV show, NUMB3RS has recently done a show featuring a type of human trafficking. People frequently "joke" (and I oh-so hate these "jokes") about cheap labor in china. And how "everything and everyone is cheap in china". As despicable as that saying is, there is a slight truth in it. There are a lot of sweatshops in China. Chinatown and areas often highly populated with Chinese immigrants can be the same way. This show highlights that. If anyone has seen it, please feel free to comment! If you haven't, it was on Friday night, January 23rd, 2009

i don't normally watch this show, so i'm a bit nervous expressing my opinion. mostly this show made me think about truth in television. it probably happens a lot, but few can notice it anymore. there's a bit of a propaganda war going on right now, and cynics will have you believe it's for your mind. i just wonder if tropes are bad. specifically because even truth in television can be written badly. with that in mind i'm just wondering if tv is doing much to help. everyone remember how metal gear solid ended? blunt delivery can make an effective message. an effective message. anyway, i'm probably being hard on the writers but that's what i got out of the show.

They did an OK job on it, I think. That stuff does happen... but it wasn't a big enough impact.

Hmm, this is interesting because Human Rights issues in China have been a big topic on the news a lot the last couple of weeks because of the Chinese prime minister visiting here, and a lot of protests that occurred because of it.
